Yarn! A contest!

Thanks for all the comments on Madge & Anastasia! I finally got around to setting the twist on some hanks of handspun. For your viewing pleasure:

100% Merino Wool, 2 ply (spun on Val's Joy), approximately 142 yards

100% Finn, navajo plied (spun on my precious Lulu), approximately 32 yards

50% Alpaca, 30% Merino, 20% Silk, singles, approximately 140 yards

Onto the contest! My birthday is next week, so I thought I'd have a fun game. Because I did the driving to/from Rhinebeck, and we left so early, I brought some energy drinks with me just in case I needed them. Below is the pic of me and the energy drinks.

What you need to do is come up with a caption for the pic (Thanks Amy for taking a good pic of me!). The best one will win 3 skeins of this:

That's Alchemy Yarns Synchronicity in Texas Bluebonnet. It's 50/50 silk and merino, 110 yards per skein. So, put on your thinking caps, come up with a great caption, leave me a comment or send me an email (link in the sidebar). I'm really looking forward to the captions. Contest ends 11/6, winner to be announce on 11/7, my birthday.

"Drugs, Sex... all we need now is some Rock n Roll and we're good to go!"

P.S. Is that Bawls stuff really as nasty as I hear?

Lulu sure is getting a workout! Her sister sure is slow to arrive to me - I'm living vicariously through you til my Lendrum arrives! Lovely yarn - love the navajo plied and still just can't picture that technique....

For some reason bloglines didn't update your feed until this morning, so:
*Love the Madge
*Love the socks
*Love the spin

Lauren took my caption idea, so I need to think of something better....How about this:

"No Sleep From Brooklyn!"

With her Cocaine in one hand, and some Bawls in the other, Karen was ready for a good time.

"You can't have just one addiction!"

or

"Addiction Fuels Addiction!

or in geek form:

"10 addiction
20 fuels
30 goto 10"

Love the handspun. It looks so beautiful and soft.

You don't have Bawls until you try Cocaine!

Great knitters dont need to have bawls or take Cocaine to travel to Rhinebeck, they just have knitter's motivation.

I don't know if i'm eligible, but my vote is

Cocaine and Bawls, two awful tastes that taste awful together. ;)

OMG! My first thought at seeing the pic was:
"Speedy Balls...don't knock 'em" or

"Imagine how fast the Honey-Do list will get done" or

"The secret to my husband vacuuming" or

"Cocaine + female + Bawls = the perfect man"

...I could go on LOL

I'm probably dating myself...but a whole bunch of advertising slogans come to mind:

-Put a tiger in your tank.
-Finger lickin' good.
-Because I'm worth it.
-Good to the last drop.
-Breakfast of Champions.
-Don't leave home without it.
-Be all you can be.
-The pause that refreshes.
-Just do it.
-When you've got it, flaunt it.
-Fly the friendly skies.

See? I spend waaaaay too much time watching tv and reading mags, when I should be knitting. lol

Hope you have a happy birthday!

"here we have a real life fiber addict. as you can see she will go to great lengths, even avoiding sleep, to get her fiber fix. careful now, turn off your flashes, and watch your wool sweaters, fiber adddicts have been known to attack."

2 things or actually songs came to me,,,not exactly captions.

#1 on the Cocaine,,, immediately Clapton sprang to mind, and this pertaining to your wheel, "If you want to hang out, you've got to take her out,, cocaine.....

#2 on the Bawls,,,lol, this being directly related to whats being done up on the wheel! Compliments of AC/DC

My balls are always bouncing, to the left and to the right,
Its my belief that my big balls should be held every nite.

OK ok, so they start out as skeins before they become balls.

Hi Karen! Read your post on Lacevember and just HAD to see your Shetland Tea Shawl. My reaction was "Holy Smokes!" And I totally understand why the frogging was done. As for your contest, hmmm... My offering is "The lengths I would go to for Rhinebeck!"
=:8

"With forethought, the dedicated knitter prepares herself for a long, but worthwhile, journey. Nothing will detour her from her tasks, and she is not afraid to imbibe foul tasting caffeinated beverages for great yarn-filled goodness. Don't let the charming smile fool you: she will use her pointed sticks against all those who stand in her way."

And Happy Birthday!

Karen - the original Coked-out Bawlzy Yarn Ho!

If yarn pr0n came in liquid form, she'd have drunk that too.

And P.S. that is a great picture of you!

Cocaine: Just another gateway drug

Wait 'til she gets her hands on the hard stuff at the 'beck

As an academic, it takes me far too many words (and colons) to get the concept across. Great photo, and so jealous that you made it to the yarn and fiber-fest!

cpurl17 said...

I can't think of anything clever but LOVE the yarn and the photo!

And in this photo, we can see the Knitter in her natural habitat. Notice the evidence of addiction--a trunk overflowing with wool products.

Also apparent is the Knitter's susceptibility to other addictive substances--namely, ballz and cocaine. It is only a matter of time before the Knitter resorts to other illegal activities involving cocaine and balls in order to fund her illicit wool gathering.
